Homemade Tortillas

Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups water
6 tablespoons olive oil

Directions

In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Stir in water and oil. Turn onto a floured surface; knead 12-15 times, adding a little flour or water if needed to achieve a smooth dough. Let rest for 10-15 minutes.
Divide dough into sixteen portions. On a lightly floured surface, roll each portion into a 7-in. circle.
In a large nonstick skillet coated with cooking spray, cook tortillas over medium heat for 1 minute on each side or until lightly browned. Keep warm.

And just olive oil. I thought they had to be made with lard.

It isn't easy to make torts.

Not many ingredients but one thing is a MUST....they don't come out good unless made by a little brown round mexican.

Like my mother.

And when I was a kid, we would make them in an assembly line in the kitchen with an old tortilla press.

You know, I believe that. Same as with spaghetti sauce, nobody makes it as good as an Italian, it's in the bloodline.

That is so cool. I would have loved to have been a neighbor so I could have helped. I would have been right there. :lolh:

Dave, I love all the step-by-step photos.
