You can't go by me. Expiration dates are the rule in my house. My husband and daughter will drink milk past due or take medicine if it is a year old. Not me. I throw it out sooner rather than later.
ANYthing in my fridge that has been cooked stays for 1 week - I will eat it for the first 4 days maybe and my husband will eat if it is older but I toss it at the 7 day mark. I'm not a fan of stuff in the freezer for longer than a month either.
I'm weird like that.

Don't keep it for longer than a week. Throw those lentils out. Salmonella is a really bad disease.

Lower frig about 7 days max...just to be safe.
