Re: Quiz - The Cooking Quiz
I got 10 out of 10!
I gotta get me one of those Japanese knives!
I was chopping last week with my knife and getting irritated about everything sticking to it.

I gotta get me one of those Japanese knives!

Re: Quiz - The Cooking Quiz
See! Wasn't that fun! It's not a hard quiz! Really, Tat, buy yourself a good knife! Every cook deserves a good knife!
Re: Quiz - The Cooking Quiz
There were 2 in there I thought I might get wrong...Yup they were about baking, but I got a 10, surprised myself.
Re: Quiz - The Cooking Quiz
Well, that doesn't surprise me! I knew you'd get 100!

Re: Quiz - The Cooking Quiz
My kids got me this chef's knife for Christmas one year. I THINK it was a pretty good brand - a Wustof maybe? But it's not serrated (or whatever you call the one listed in the quiz).Pixie wrote:See! Re: Quiz - The Cooking Quiz
A Wusthof is a VERY good brand! That is what I own. None of mine have the hollow edge (it may be called something different but that's how I know it).
All my knives are the Wusthof Grand Prix II. I LOVE them!!!!!!!!

Re: Quiz - The Cooking Quiz
The Santuko I have wasn't very expensive, but it sits right beside my other 2 Chefs Knives. These 3 knives do 80% of all the work., and the Santuko does more than half of that. They're great knives.tattulip wrote:My kids got me this chef's knife for Christmas one year. I THINK it was a pretty good brand - a Wustof maybe? Re: Quiz - The Cooking Quiz
I don't own a Santuko. I own 10" & 8" Chef's knives, I have a 9" bread knife, a 6" sandwich (all purpose) knife and three paring knives. All Wusthof... one paring knife is pink!
Yes, it is!
I have a pair of kitchen shears to match!

Re: Quiz - The Cooking Quiz

9 out of 10...I guessed wrong about the glass measuring cup, as I thought some "bent" light refraction would be evident.
As to the knives...my sister swears by her Cutco set, while I prefer Buck, SOG, Remington, Gerber and Ek for those purposes. Oh, I might break down and use a Marble's...and for boning, nothing beats a Schrade Extreme Survival knife.

Re: Quiz - The Cooking Quiz
A good QOTD for recipes (he we should have one) might be; What is the most difficult recipe or cooking method you've tried or tried to master?

Roasting marshmallows on Mount St. Helen...?
Re: Quiz - The Cooking Quiz
I'll stay away from Baking...that really isn't my forte.
But, I'll have to say 2 things.
One is mastering all the methods of making 'Classic Sauces'. Took me awhile to get to maybe 80%.
Two is mastering (which I haven't achieved as yet) the proper use of, and balance of Herbs and Spices with all my special dishes.

You are further along than I am... I have only mastered one of the Mother Sauces... Hollandaise.
