Re: Bean Recipes

I really like this salad!

http://allrecipes.com/recipe/mexican-bean-salad/

Ham and bean soup would be cheap and hearty.

Since you will be eating a lot of beans, I am glad I do not live with you.

Re: Chocolate Cake for mother's day . . .

That's almost exactly like the cake recipe on the Chocolaterie Stam website! Except for the water/coffee. Do you use cake flour? Ingredients: Original recipe makes 1 - 4 layer 9 inch cake Cake 2 cups white sugar 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour 3/4 cup unsweetened Stam cocoa powder 1 1/2 teaspoons bakin...

Re: How do you like your eggs?

Eggs are pretty versatile! I like them all different ways.

My daughter and I went out for breakfast while in San Diego. My order was a pastry "basket" filled with sausage gravy with big chunks of tasty sausage in it and on top was a fried egg. SO GOOD!

Re: Low Cal Foods?

I hate vegetables. I don't know how to season them so they won't taste bland. Bland is what bothers me the most. Thanks for your suggestions and such. I may have to arrange to take some cooking classes. Start with some Lawry's seasoned salt. Try a little curry powder to. I bought a whole cabinet fu...

Re: Low Cal Foods?

You can throw any seasoning on a veggie to make it taste less bland. I like veggies!

A friend of mine, who is on a diet, eats LOTS of spaghetti squash. It IS bland but you can put whatever you want on it to taste however you want.

Re: Low Cal Foods?

It's more about portion control I think. Use a small plate. It should be 2/3 vegetables. A piece of meat the size of a pack of cards and very few carbs.

You get used to eating smaller portions after a week or two.

Re: Unsalted Butter

What is the sense in using unsalted butter in a recipe and then adding salt? :headscratch: Why not just use salted butter? :dunno: A lot of times dessert recipes do not call for salt, and there shouldn't be any salt in the butter either, for those particlar recipes. And some people do not add salt ...

Re: Unsalted Butter

Here's the answer they gave us when I attended Restaurant School . . . Salted butter is a lower quality butter. Salt is added to cover up poor quality, improve taste, and extend shelf life. Unsalted butter is of much higher quality and is much clearer when melted, and also does not produce as much ...
